The original amber style lager was developed by Anton Dreher shortly after the isolation of lager yeast. Nearly extinct in its area of origin, the style continues in Mexico where it was brought by Santiago Graf and other Austrian immigrant brewers in the late 1800s.
In honor of the Mexican resurrection of this style, we decided to call this beer ingredient kit Cerveza de Viena (Vienna Beer in Spanish).
The style owes much of its character to the method of malting (Vienna malt). Vienna lager is characterized by soft, elegant maltiness that dries out in the finish to avoid becoming sweet and has a firm bitterness. The color is light reddish amber to copper in color. Lighter malt character overall than an Oktoberfest, yet still decidedly balanced toward malt.
Note: This ingredient kit is a lager beer and requires that the temperature is maintained at ~55 degrees. If you would like to use an ale yeast and ferment at room temperature, you can select the German Ale yeast or the "No Yeast" option and purchase the yeast separately.
High Gravity's extract kits use only the highest quality ingredients and are assembled when you order so they contain the freshest possible ingredients. Each kit makes 5 gallons.
